Smile Limited slip differential

I just changed the gear oil in my 95 XJ6 differential. I used Castrol 80/90 for limited slip differentials. I remember somewhere in the threads on this subject that there was no problem using limited slip oil in a differential that is NOT limited slip. The other way around of course is a problem. Am I correct in this recollection and does my car NOT have limited slip?

Thanks guys

there is a sticker on the side of differential with a certain colour code which tells you what kind of differential gearing it has inside and whether it's limited slip or not.. I don't have the legend handy, but if you do a search, I am sure it will come up.. this is assuming the sticker is original, and correct.

I am also using Castrol gear oil (for limited slip) in my VDP which does not have limited slip.. I hope the oil is ok if not, I'd like to know about it.

Thanks Doug for the quick response. I was pretty sure it was OK.

I notice you live in Longview Wash. I lived in Snohomish, Wash for 17 years. I do miss the mountains and water. But not the winters, that are very mild, but last until July 5th. And the summers are short but very pleasant tempt wise.

Thanks again.

It was not excessively dirty around the outside. But you can't clean the inside. In 98 and on they changed the breather to a removal threated item like all other cars. We did blow some air in the differential and it seemed to flow out the breather. So, who knows. If I still think the breather is plugged I will pop the cap off and put on a remote breather.

The problem is if the breather is plugged somewhere deeper.

Next time I have mine up on the lift I'm going to put a piece of tubing on it and see if I can suck air out of the diff.
