Locked glove box in 1994 X300

Today for the first time ever I decided to lock something (my Sat Nav) in the glove box. I did so, locked it with the key, and then couldn't unlock it using the same (black) key! Assuming this was something to do with the Valet button (which I had not pressed recently), I tried both the following without success: 1) Holding down the remote unlock button for several seconds. 2) Locking the car then opening the boot with the key.

Having the Jaguar garage do it sounds very expensive. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Update

I did have to visit the Jaguar Garage Minster Jaguar, Preston, who told me the lock was faulty, but instead of charging me for an expensive repair and replacement, they referred me to a local locksmith who dismantled the glove box from behind, dismantled and repaired the lock, and refitted it all. Minster earned my loyalty that day.
