Looking at 1996 VDP,have questions
Hello,
Sorry if these questions are repeats in other posts somewhere. I am looking at a 1996 VPD with 63,000 original miles on it. Car looks good and everything works except one incident on the test drive has me concerned. While going down a hill I push the gas pedal hard to see how it would respond. The transmission light came on and it went into a limp mode. After stopping the car and restarting it went away. In talking with the owner I told him I would not make an offer on the car until it was taken to our local Jaguar dealer and inspected along with the transmission checked. He agreed and the car also will come come with a 12 month/unlimited mile warranty. Any other things I should really be looking for. Everything else on the car works and the only bad spot on the car is inside the passenger door is just starting to show some bubbling from rust. The car is selling for $6,000 with the warranty. Any thoughts appreciated.

Good buy
All I can say is your price is terrific if it's a near mint car AND with warranty. Good luck to you. I stepped back from the brink of buying a very nice, well priced 2001 XJ8 with 75k miles and instead went for a near mint 96 VDP with 56k miles. It's been inspected, but is As-Is. I paid a little over $7k plus $600 for shipping from Florida. And, I'm quite happy. The 96-97 XJs have bullet proof engines and transmissions with good electrics.
When I was looking, I found much depended on the color. There are several low mileage beige and white 96-97 VDPs out there going for considerably less than the silvers, grays, sapphire blues and blacks. So, those of you out there who want a low mileage beige or white 96-97 XJ, you'll do well. Especially beige (light tan metallic). White's are better priced in the north than the south.
