Smile MAF Sensor

Just one straight question. How do you clean the X300 MAF with CRC MAF spray cleaner? The probe is not visible.

Spray like mad from both ends, or drill out the rivets, pull out the actual sensor, then screw back in.
I use a World Parts (I think that’s the brand) generic MAF (the genuine XJR MAF is unobtanium), and that has 4 tamper-proof crews which undo , instead of rivets, so is easily removed and cleaned.

Thanks AL

I looked carefully at my unit. It doesn't appear that it will come apart. You have actually done it this way?

Do not touch the sensor, you will destroy it. Spray several times thru the mesh about 3 inches away and install back as soon as it is dry. I would wipe inside the air inlet with a cloth.

This is what I used,

I use the same stuff. But, how could you touch the sensor since you can't even see it. Looks like it is buried inside the vertical post. Just spraying the vertical post through the mesh doesn't seem like it would have any cleaning effect.

I just sprayed it from both sides. But then, I didn't have any problem. Are you chasing an issue? I've also picked up one from Pick-n-pull, fit it for a day - worked fine...took it off and boxed it. That reminds me...I've since plucked another one...I need to test it, too!

EZ, if you are chasing a problem and you just want to rule out the MAF, I'd be glad to loan you a spare for troubleshooting. (if I can find that box....)

There is one in the yard here locally. I always need an excuse to go there. I'll go pull if you'd like. + shipping. I think they get like 30 bucks for one.

YOu can remove the mesh. It is held in place by a friction ring.

I don't have a problem but don't want one either and being stuck with having to buy a new from Jaguar. Has anyone actually laid eyes on the sensor in an X300 MAF?

I'll open my unit up in the morning to calibrate it against a specific model # of thermistor

See page 7 of document below covering DO-35 package type , code DK , code H for bent wire

Sensor pic attached. I cant see any way to actually clean it without removing it first. Drill the rivets, pull it out, there is 0 chance that you break anything unless you rip the components off the metal wires(highly unlikely). Clean it up, then put it all back together with its rubber gasket and tighten it up using screws. Very simple design.

The top item is the thermistor and the bottom is the platinum hot wire .

Thanks 83. I appreciate the picture and your instructions. I have two spare units. I can use one of these to experiment with.

I also found a company that is building new units, not exactly the same exact design but one that will fit and will function. That may save our bacon. I'll find reference to that and post it.
