Default Memory seat/wheel trouble

I have a 1997 xj6 and when i get in the car the seat is supposed to be all the way back for easy entry and then move to your desired position when you turn the key...right? Mine stays in the position i set it but when you tuen the ignition off you can hear the seat motor but the seat doesnt move. what could be causing this? Also my wheel doesnt telescope out or in. I can hear the motor but it doesnt move either. tips?

The steering wheel control also rotates. Look at it and turn it to Auto. You hear the motor and the wheel doesn't move in or out, broken shaft. Mine too.

It sounds like whatever the motor "drives" is broken. I'm no help. I can't rememeber if the seats use drive cables, or if the motors are attached directly to gearboxes, or what.

Both the tilt and telescope functions use motors to operate drive cables....which rotate to operate the adjustment mechanisms. The drive cables are known to break.

It used to be that the motors and cables were sold together as a unit. However, Coventry West (and perhaps others) found a supplier for the cables alone....which saves lots of money.

The motor and cable for the "tilt" function is easy to remove and replace. As I recall, though, the same can't be said for the "telescope" motor.

Cheers
