Default My 97 XJ6 is dying!!!

So I had posted before about issues that I was having about my 97 XJ6, and the issues are continuing.

The car will not stay running for more than an hour. Once it stalls, I can start it back up but will not stay running. The alternator is testing fine, fuel pressure seems to be good, but I'm running out of ideas.

Also, the battery doesn't seem to hold a charge after a few weeks, there is something that is staying on and draining the battery. As to what it is, I'm not too sure.

Is there a list of systems within the car that use a small amount of power while the car is off? I'm running out of ideas and I don't really want to part with it

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Or your battery is just no good. Batteries of today are NOT built like batteries of yesterday AND these cars need a good, well charged battery in good shape. I'd try a new battery first.

Hi dwhx300,

There are many possible causes of, or contributors to, your issues. Are there any signs that the engine is running lean or rich? Hot? I would suggest that you have the car scanned for any stored OBDII Diagnostic Trouble Codes to see if one or more codes may help narrow down the diagnosis. Most auto parts stores will check your codes for free.

Regarding your battery drain, my first question would be how old is the battery? With age and use, batteries lose their ability to store a charge. A dying battery could even be tied to your stalling problems. Most auto parts stores will do a basic check of your battery and charging system for free.

I am attaching a couple of documents that will help you diagnose parasitic current drains.

Cheers,

Don
