My inert cooling duct fell off
Yeah, I can't find one post about them. There is one for sell on eBay, but nowhere else on the web is it mentioned. SO... my 97 XJ6 has ducts from the front bumper to the wheel wells. The passenger side one got loose and was dragging along the ground as I drove. (It was still attached on one side of course.) Well I would just rig it back up but the reason I inquire here is because there is a sensor on these things. What for? What are the ducts even for? I unplugged the sensor and have got no warning and/or code about anything.... any explanations? Thank you.
The right side duct has a sensor for an unused feature in your USA car (like headlamp wash if I recall). The left side duct is the ambient air temp sensor. The duct is held on at the wheel liner by a circular piece of plastic which is available to replace. Done that. The front of the duct is riveted in and can be a real pain to reattach. In this case, ditch it and cover the wheel liner opening.
Thank you , folks. Another Quick problem. One headlight won't come on with the other. the LH low beam would, variously, come one when switched on, come one a minute later or now not at all. Changed the bulb but no power to the LH low beam. It doesn't seem there are separate fuses (but then it wouldn't have come on at all?) i pulled and jiggled the wires as far as i could reach and no change. Again, it used to come on when it pleased. haha. Thanks for any input...
as far as the headlight is concerned that certainly sounds like a poor connection somewhere.
take out the globe and reinsert it,
unplug the headlight clean the pins on the plug and reconnect it
check the wiring as much as possible for any signs of corrosion.
find where it earths and check the ground.
