Default My knob has worn out...

My gearknob is down to the metal. I can’t find another on the web. There are wooden auto ones that’d do the job, and some generic ones that are fairly average.
Does anyone have a spare Getrag knob I could buy?

Maybe you should stop rubbing it too hard... (too obvious joke I know)

or just get it upholstered by local car upholstered and mean while get cheap generic one until the original is done?

I didn't know it had original leather wrapping; mine is down to barren metal, is original and looks normal. Have been trying to find some near replacement but many are just too modern. A year ago, I bought a used gear knob originally used on the X-type manual drive

but the screw thread on the bottom of the knob is different and would need an adapter to sit properly on the X300 shift stick. I eventually gave up as it is too much trouble.

Is it threaded like the auto knobs?

If so check out this....

If it isn't threaded what does it look like? BMW uses getrag maybe one of their knobs will fit?

Looks cool, classy and can't tell it is not original. However, given that the XJR's charcoal black wood trim, dash and steering wheel, a wooden gear knob would seem out of place. In fixing the radio and stuff, I have removed and reinstalled the gear knob many times and even without the original leather wrap the mushroom shape of the X300 metal manual gear knob is unique, the shift pattern decal is still sharp and clear, permanent and secure, and the gear knob surprises me every time I remove and reinstall it as it weighs like gold - it fell off once when i failed to grab it coming off the shift stick and almost broke the skiing slope.

I read about cabin hygiene some years ago alerting people that the steering wheel is home to bacteria of all sorts so I would rather prefer a gear knob and steering wheel without leather wrap.

You could get a leather gear knob from an automatic and get it embossed. I took a slightly different route with the blank wooden knob from a later S-Type (XJ8/XK8 probably uses something similar) and had it laser engraved:

This is my gear knob as of now - bare metal with shift pattern decal intact.

AL, there is a used X300 Manual Gear Knob for sale on eBay. Pretty in good shape but price and shipment reflect its rarity and weight.
