New Jaguar owner here with a few little problems...
Hi Tom,
what brand of gas equipment was built into your XJ6 ?
There are special forums that take care of typical performance problems.
Are you able to check the OBD lambda values while driving (of course let someone else drive) ?
I am not sure if your 1996 Jaguar already does OBD.
BTW, NGK spark plugs are known to be most durable on gas, I would not change them for others.
cheers

My XJ6 has the same squeal when cold and has had for years with no ill effect. I think it is just the cold belt on the ridged pulley that happens even without slipping. I have learned to ignore it.
Hi everyone, went through another belt yesterday, I had noticed the squeal taking longer to disappear each morning for the last month or so, so next project is tackling the crank pulley/balancer thingy (must read up about it).
Good news! I had a new front pipe (small pre cats pipe) and intermediate pipe (underfloor cats) fitted today due to an increasingly loud blow on both pipes. I must say I hadn't realised quite how loud it had become, it is so quiet now that the tyre noise seems loud! Very pleased, it sounds nice and deep now when you put your foot down, feels smoother too.
Also picked up a rather good used bonnet last night, so that will be going on this evening, should make it much more presentable.
Pictures to follow!
