Default New LED tail lights for the x300

Rather than just replacing the bulbs I thought I'd make some more modern style versions.
Not fully decided upon indicator layout, so might change as I mess about, and brake light unit hasn't arrived as yet, so the red ones are just the standard rear lights

Doubled up on the indicator in this one,, but think I preferr the single myself

To open did end up using a dremel cutting disk, as they see, to be simply superglued together, and heat with a sharp knife did not work

looks like fun!
I am dog-in-the-manger, but I still hate LEDs in cars.
I guess they are safer though.
Can you post some finished shots on the car?
cheers

I really like where you're going, but 2 things about home grown LED setups - how visible are they in bright daylight (they look great in the dark), and how will you accommodate the CAN bus error when it thinks a bulb is out with the low LED power draw?

As I recall, the X300 doesn't use CAN bus.

But you of course will have some flasher issues unless you add resistance.

I just assumed that's how it knows a lamp is burned out.

It's not canbus as such, but a simple resistance measuring system.
You can use resistors to fool it, but not have much success at present in finding ones that do not get too hot and melt the plastic casing!
If I don't suceed in that route I'll just disable the system by removing the three return signal leads from the Light control module.

The led strips are ridiculously bright and throw out more light than the incandescent bulbs, so there isn't any issue with daylight. The actual problem is they are too bright and actually look like brake lights, so will probably drop the voltage to 9v to dim them down.

The whole unit is probably going to be wrapped in smoked film anyway which will also help.
