The relay clicks, and the button illuminates, so I'll verify the connectors are hooked up below the seat tonight. Assuming they are, is there anything else I can troubleshoot before assuming both blankets are bad?

The heated seat blankets are actually one of those things that are somewhat of an expected failure point eventually from what I've read. There are a few threads here about troubleshooting and replacement.

Given that they are a common failure point, I somewhat expected mine not to work to tell you the truth.

Some have chosen to replace them with aftermarket blankets.

I seem to recall a troubleshooting matrix in the JTIS? I have an X300 cd provided with the car by the PO. I have also used the JTIS available here via download. Don't remember which is the source but one of the two had a flow chart to troubleshoot lack of seat heat.

If you determine your blankets are bad, you'll need to skin the seats to renew them... not for the faint-of-heart, but $30-$40 investment in hog-ring pliers and a supply of hog-rings will set you on your way! The Jag blankets have provisions to get heat out in the thigh bolster part, past the hog-rings along the piping arch in the cushion. I used blankets from a kit and stopped at the piping out of fear of creating a short or failing the blanket if I'd tried to hog-ring it or creatively trim for it.

You can pick up a complete aftermarket kit that will serve two seats for about $80 and the used take-off blankets I've seen on eBay have been north of $120. If you go the aftermarket route, cut the connectors off your OEM blankets before you toss them; or else ship them to me and I'll scavenge them for local use before you realize you'll need them.....

I'll take a look again and see what I can find for trouble shooting. My indy also has a 97 XJR6 so I'm going to talk to him about it and see if he's had the same issue.

I'm not sure if I could handle skinning the seats.. at least not right away. The leather needs a lot of conditioning before that could happen regardless of who does it, since it baked in the sun for 5 years. No cracks, though.

Here's an "upskirt" view or two in case you decide to tackle it:

Everyone has their favorites and will chime in, but I've been cleaning and conditioning mine with Gliptone.
