So let's cover the basics first. 97, xj6, about 110k vanden plas. Turn the key, and get no response. All lights work, power is there. Getting a check engine light, and also what I believe the tranny light is on. Looks like tran with wrench through it. It ran rough one time and these same lights came on. But eventually it went away and problems ceased. Then again warning lights, ran rough, when I shut the car off, it completely went dead. Engine wise. All electronics work. I then jumped the starter by connecting the 2 wires and car fired up but ran rough. I've heard cps is most likely cause. I will check tomorrow the injectors and ignition with a stethoscope. I've read other threads and that seems to be the concessus. Can anyone tell me where the crank position sensor is? 724 809 6920 Corey, or I'll check the board tomorrow after stetho. You want to look at the ckps which is the crank position sensor at he fron of the engine on the damper- the big pulley at the bottom.

 

So I replaced the cps which was I believe sort of the problem. The wires that run into the cps were bare metal and touching. I believe they shorted something out.

I also noticed the fuse to my trunk and doors was burnt out. And I still can't get my trunk to unlock electronically or doors with the unlock button in dash. I tried swapping relays and fuses to no avail. Any other ideas?

 

Oh ya. Cps fixed the running rough propblem but did not fix the failure to start. Still receiving tranny error and service engine error.

 

So it turned out to be starter relay.
