Default Oh no the bolt is now stripped *help me*

I was removing the stabilizer links

The long bottom bolt came out really nice and the nut threads 0n perfect

The Top WAS A NIGHTMARE??
coming out the bolt seem to angle weird. when i finally got it out
2 of the threads on the bolt were completely GONE!!!
Inside the nut i notice 1 thread has a chunk missing

Im trying to replace the stabilizer links but what can i do with the bolt?

I cant drive my car with out the link right?????

Should i attempt a Lows or Home depot Replacement bolt and nut?

or is there a place to order the exact bolt?

should i just get a lows or home depot bolt and go to junk yard after and steal an old one?

I NEED TO FIX THIS TONIGHT ITS MY ONLY CAR!!THAT RUNS
I WORK TOMORROW

Well, if you need the car ready by tonight, I'd say a trip to Lowe's or Home Depot is in order, provided you get a bolt\nut with the proper grade to match original.

No need to panic

The bolt is a 7/16" x 2 3/16" shoulder bolt. You should be able to pick them up at a local hardware store. It won't matter if the bolt is a tad longer say 2 1/4"

Get a 7/16" nylon insert nut and a washer.

Look for grade 8 steel

You can certainly use grade 5 but for suspension systems I always try to get grade 8 hardware, it's much stronger and those bolts take a beating, especially when the bushings fail!!

It's a basic nut and bolt, no need to try and find one in the breakers yard, in fact the last thing you'd want to do is replace it with an old one. Nuts and bolts are cheap

yah thats true no need junk bolts

they did not have the exact bolt 7/16 "-20 x 2 3/16"

they had a 7/16"-20 x 2 1/2

its a bit longer but it worked

i think ill just order that exact bolt size online and replace again since its super easy. i just think they made it that size for a reason?

thanks for your help AllanG Saved the night

My XJ6 is all metric, this is interesting that others are fractional.

RJ,

Yes most of the car is metric but I think you'll find those bolts and certain others are imperial.

Sorry to say, the big boxes most likely won't have that. Find a true hardware store.

Yep as I said you will probably find it in 2 1/4" length. The length is immaterial provided it is long enough and not too long to could on anything. 1/16" will be of no consequence.
