Oil consumption
#2
I haven't needed to top up oil in between scheduled changes on any of my Jaguars since the Series II XJ6.
My XJ40, X300, X308 2 x XK8's and current XK have neither burned nor leaked oil. Filled to the top mark on the dipstick and checked weekly, none have been anywhere near low by oil change time.
The X300 was on 165k miles when I exchanged it for an X308 which in turn was over 100k miles when sold.
No way will I enter the 'Great Oil Debate' other than to say I follow Jaguar recommended specifications!

I am with Graham here 100%.
Previous service misadvetures will cause some strange events, so that is the open end to my reply.
My V12's were fine, once sorted after purchasing. Barely a ltr down when oil change arrived, and bear in mind the V12's were DRIVEN, mainly on the edge.
The X300 had a grubby engine internal, el'cheapo oil I assume, but with god quality oil, and frequent changes, the oil remained clean fom refill to drop, BUT, consumption was NEVER and issue.
The 2 S Types are just plain scary. NOTHING in the fluid area changes at all, except fuel obviously, and that is how I like it.
