Default Oil leak.....losing a lot

I never had oil on the ground until yesterday. It's apparantly bad enough that driving I seem to lose as much as a quart in a 20-mile run. The oil pan is drenched on the under side, it seems to all from the side with the oil filter and just looking with the naked eye, seems to be just below the filter but covers a good amount of the depth of the engine.

Any ideas where to start looking? This is/was my daily driver so I'm hoping this isn't a big big thing.

Thanks for any pointers!!!

I'm sure you've already checked the obvious, but just in case - the oil filter is tightened down? Next I'd check the breather hose exiting the valve cover. Very common for that hose to get clogged. Make sure the connector valve 'thingy' hasn't separated due to built up pressure from hose clogging. But a quart in a 20 mile run is a HUGE amount of loss. Not even a main seal leaks THAT much. Normally, the only thing I'd imagine would is @ the oil filter connection.

Sounds like the oil cooler bypass 'O'rings for the 'U' shaped cast aluminum housing in the oil filter mount.

They get 'crispy' and leak.
