- I'm just putting my 96 xj12 back together and am about to put steering rack back on subframe. How do I remove the old outer tie rds without stressing the inner ones? I'm not with the car right now but started to look at it last night after putting subframe back etc and couldn't see how to break it loose. Normally it's just two wrenches but I couldn't see a grip point on the shaft?

I'd put tape over the nut on the threaded nut that is tightened against the tie rod like an idiot. Figured it out now
