pondering x300 purchase 210K miles & cylinder work
Thinking about buying another x300 for spare parts &/or to possibly get running good again. It has 210K one owner, 2 years back reg(probably $600+), low compression in one of the cylinders, 19" rims that would fit my other x300 with 125K miles
Any ideas on how much $ it would cost to get a low mileage x300 engine?
Thanks for your time!

I don't know about the cylinder, but the X300's didn't come with 19" rims stock. One issue I'd consider with using those rims on your car (or any X300 for that matter) would be tremoring when traveling at high speeds. From what I've heard, putting larger rims on an X300 causing them to tremor at high speeds. Otherwise, I'd buy it if the price is right.

thanks for the tips guys... I know that 19" rims don't come stock on x300s It is an aftermarket set that the owner bought which cost around $2800 new supposedly. They look like what I have been waiting for. And I can have the entire x300 with a paint job only 5 years old. All for under a thousand. I could keep it for parts if the engine work is gunna be astronomical. I could part it out and make a pretty penny. Im excited. Now its a matter of convincing my land lord to not bump up my rent for keeping another car on the premises haha

Buy it, we can mess with it when I come over next year, nice detraction from drinking, and perving, hahahaha.
Nothing will go to waste, look at the older cars, and what people are looking for from time to time. This may take a little time, but what the heck. Put it out of the elements and reap the rewards in years to come.

I am not sure what you mean by a "cylinder"? I am guessing that might mean rebuilding the engine and resleeving one cylinder sleeve since these engines are not like a Porsche or a motorcycle with replaceable cylinder jugs. As Doug said, parts are reported to be pretty hard to find.
Anyway, as a fram of reference, on the mainland, a low mileage XJ6 engine regularly sells for about $500.00 for the complete engine. Installation extra, of course.

Your right sparkenzap I was not really clear. After doing some research it would run me close to a grand to get a new engine in Hawaii after some decent luck &/or long wait time for one to show up on craigslist/junk yards. One of the cylinders has low compression, the car has little power. After seeing the 95 Xj6 up close & how bad the interior was all I want is the 19" rims for my 97 Xj6. I would take the plunge and get the whole car & make it my next project but the interior is trashed & it is going to need a lot more work then just a new engine. Oh well after today if no one buys the complete car I will be able to grab the 19" rims for my 97 Xj6, keepin my fingers crossed.

The rims are worth twice as much as the car. Maybe ask the guy to put the stock wheels back on (they dont look bad). 19s are overkill for an xj6 anyway. But if u really like the 19s, suit yourself. Just be prepared to replaced the cars shocks, breaks, tie rods, and god knows what else.

I already need to replace the shocks and will be doing so soon after getting the wheels on my car. Your saying I will need to replace tie rods, brakes, & more just from going from 16" rims to 19" rims? I've never heard anyone mention new rims require tie rods, although I hear drilled & slotted brake rotors are a good thing to add when upgrading to bigger &/or heavier rims. Tie rods can be a pricey job from what I hear & I would like to avoid replacing expensive parts if unnecessary. Let me know what you all think
