Potential New 1997 X300 VP Owner
Hello Everyone,
Great resource you have going here. I am in the final stages of purchasing a 1997 VP with 45K miles which was essentially a one-owner care with the exception of the family friend who purchased from the estate and put less than 100 miles on it in close to one year since purchase. The original owner was a little old lady who drove it to the beauty salon. The 45K service was completed four years ago, new shocks were installed on the front, the AC has been recharged, and the headliner re-glued. The car looks to be immaculate and from what I can tell the car has received proper service and only needs a new set of Pirelli's (trying to figure out which ones are best for a quiet, but confident ride). I am getting the car for a fair price, if not on the high side, but I would prefer to pay more up front then have to pay for repairs.
This will not be my daily driver and will not be driven in the rain or snow. I have read a great deal of good things about this car, but have also heard about the myriad electrical issues. I have always owned Mercedes E-class and decided I wanted something fun to plug around in as a weekend ride. Kinda backwards since my main drive is a 2011 E350 cabriolet that I purchased with 19K miles on it in 2012 and only has 40K miles on it now. Anywho, I want to make sure I don't get in over my head and end up purchasing a car that will be a maintenance nightmare. I reviewed the new purchase guide that is listed on the forum and it had some great information, but just wanted to solicit some feedback from the group. Thanks everyone.
