Our XJ is coming along well.

I was able to fix to the tilt mechanism by just cleaning one of the contacts. Got lucky there.
Fixed the cup holder.

Whats left is this.
Throttle is still a bit stiff. Car is reluctant to downshift when applying brittle.

Throttle body is clean. Not an issue there. I’m assuming the cable itself is stiff from lack of use. How do I grea I it up? It goes all the way through traction control on passenger side then it goes to the throttle body. Long travel.

Also the ffog light switch lost its lense. Anyway to get it it ? Safely ?

The cable doesn’t go through traction control, it ends there and a new cable goes to the throttle body. Traction control works by allowing the connection between your right foot and the throttle body to break and then be restored.
It is definitely worth checking the cable routing, but if she has been laid up for a while, a period of regular use could work wonders on its own.

Thank you. I’d gladly change the cable, but I hear it’s no longer available.

Ill see see how it goes over time. I’m afraid the cable is stretched or binding because I’m not able to downshift by depressing gas pedal. Often times it will donitnif I click the button under gas pedal. But otherwise it won’t.

The button under the gas pedal is a key component in relation to kickdown, but it is only one input to the gearbox ECU which makes the decision to kickdown based on roadspeed, current gear selected, and I believe, throttle position. That said, the button under the gas pedal is easily damaged, especially if someone has tried to adjust or remove it by unscrewing the rubber part. Unless the electrical cables are disconnected first, and carefully unwound at the same rate as the rubber part of the button, they will stretch and eventually break. Needless to say, I found this out the hard way! Might be worth checking the button is functioning correctly?

Thank you for chiming in.

I was going by what my father was telling me. I got to drive the car yesterday and it downshifts just fine. I’d say closer to the end of the gas pedal travel. Button also works as designed.

Still id like the gas pedal to be softer. I checked out the throttle cables and they all look fine. I’m assuming the throttle cable is a bit stiff due to lack of use.

Is it possible to lube up the cables inside ? I would replace the throttle cables all together if they were available. But at this point I’d like to lube them up first.

Part of the issue could be the throttle return spring. As you explore this forum more, you will see a lot of threads about high idle speed/ throttles sticking open, especially on the supercharged cars. One of the "fixes" is a stronger throttle return spring, which obviously makes the throttle feel firmer too, and you may have one of those.
I would be tempted to live with the throttle as is, and see if it loosens off with use.

I would spray some penetrating oil at the points the cable enters the sleeve, and also a touch at the throttle linkage, and then work it all back n forth to work the fluid in. The "creeping" action of the penetrant will help it get to where it's needed, if you are correct about the cable being stiff.

I will try that out this weekend.
