Renewing front brake pads - advice please
Advice please on renewing front brake pads on my 1995 model.
I've carried out this type of job before, BUT many years ago on a couple of smaller, cheaper cars when I was much younger and more inclined to tackle jobs such as this!
I remember it being a pretty straightforward procedure and imagine the principle is the same for the X300 (??). This is where I want the advice though!
Is it pretty much a straightforward job and does anyone have a link to instructions or any other advice regarding this job and the correct parts?
Have you done it?
Thanks in advance.

It's really just the same as any other with discs and pads. The only other car I can think of that is different would be Saabs where you can wind the piston back in.
Support car on axle stand.
Remove wheel.
Remove brake fluid reservoir cap.
Remove anti-rattle spring from calliper.
Remove calliper slider pins (7mm? hex).
Remove calliper with a little persuasion and trying to push piston back.
Refit as reverse of above.
Always a good idea to bleed brakes every two years.

Yeah RockAuto is great. They also have rebuild calipers for X300s for just $56 each (If I remember right) If the piston won't slide back with a regular piston slide tool you need these rebuilt ones. I learned the hard way after breaking many tools trying to push them back. Hopefully if won't come to that on your car though.

For the front ones at least... the trick is NOT to start pushing the piston in by hand - it will go in crocked and will get stuck. Instead make sure that the piston retraction tool is exactly centered (where it is pushing on the piston) and the gently screw it down - don't continue if the piston gets stuck.
I tried many times to get the piston in by hand, didn't work. Then I used the piston retraction tool (like a C clamp) and on the first try it worked.
