The auto dimming interior rear view mirror no longer functions. I never liked it anyway. Considering fitting an ordinary mirror from another car make.
Questions is, what will fit onto the existing mirror base?

 

depends. there is two styles.
early one is some odd round style attachment i have no idea what other cars will fit.

later style is a much more common mount found on many other cars.
or you can do what i plan to do and that is fit a new base and use an aftermarket mirror with auto dimming, compass etc. be a nice little upgrade.

 

The original mirror surrounds can be separated by a coin in the slider slot that way you can have someone cut and trim an ordinary mirror leaving the base alone

 

Can you explain that in more detail, maybe with a photo. Mine is a 96, can't see how it comes off?
