Default replacing 1997 xj6l engine with xjr-6 engine?

Hi guys, my 97 xj6l engine needs to be replaced and I was wondering if the xjr-6 engine bolts right in or if some configurations might need to be made . Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sure! It bolts right in..... as long as you bolt right in the transmission, intercooler, ECM, TCM, and fuel tank that were accompanying it in the same car..... You'll likely have to have a driveshaft fabricated.... unless the GM transmission just "happens" to be an exact length match to the ZF. Jaguar never offered the supercharged engine in the lwb X300, but hey, you might get lucky!

do yourself a huge solid and buy one of the plentiful naturally aspirated AJ-16's from a breaker out of a 95-97 X300 and swap it in, like--for-like. Then, if you really fancy an XJR, sell your now-redeemed XJ-6L and buy an XJR.

Welcome to the forum, and don't forget to introduce yourself in the new members section and read-n-heed the rules and guidelines. Be aware that the above is not an exhaustive list, just a few obstacles I know of off the top of my head.

There was the Daimler super V8, which was supercharged and LWB, albeit it was an X308. Not sure of the dimemensions, but that might be potential swap for you? Comments re fuel tank, intercooler, ecu still apply, and certainly not a trivial task.

Thanks aholboro1,
I've lost count how many times I've written a similar reply to this question. It's not what people want to read, but is true.

In Calif. you can't change too much on an emission controlled car and pass the biannual smog test. Even if you swapped for the same year supercharged engine all those electronics and other systems would drive you crazy. I always thought that a pre fuel injection XJ6 motor might be nice in some kind of kit car or hot rod. Maybe you could use a later engine in a special with an aftermarket engine control system like the "Megasquirt" system.
