Thought I'd share this little tip here re rubber mats as I've struggled to get them right for a long time! I have original 20+ years old, Jaguar x300 utility mats and they were pretty much worn out completely and after cleaning they used to look pretty bad. Still usable especially in winter but just not looking good.
This is how they looked AFTER a lot of soaking and cleaning:
I didn't want to use shoe polish as it has petroleum products and would possibly crack the rubber eventually so used something else(kinda accidentally ) This is after first coat:
Drying:
and how they look now:
Tbh, they looked even better than in the pics, I dont think I'd recognize a new and this mat, it was that good and I can report that they still look black and perfect today and I've treated them 24th August and did 2k+ miles since then. Finish lasts very well.
So what did I use? A £5 can of this:
It literally works wonders on Jag rubber and I can highly recommend it Doesn't stain at all, rubber is not slippery at all and it dries within 15 minutes, not really sure what pigments are used in this stuff but it definitely works! Can is enough to do all 4 mats.
I scored a set of original wool floor mats from the junk yard. The previous owner had them in the truck and did not used them. The bottom foam deteriorated due to age. They were stained but after soaked in detergent and pressure washed,it turned out super nice.
Thought I'd update this thread as had to redo my mats about a month ago I think. Repair can be considered permanent, mats looked like new for 5 seasons and now that I sprayed them, they look like new again!
