Question Roof bars (Carrier bars) on XJ6 X300

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but here is a quick introduction.

We have a first hand Jaguar XJ6 X300 4.0 Sovereign in the family since 1997 and I've started using it more and more as having two kids and having the long wheel base version just makes travelling easier.

Now, I'm trying to adapt the car to my everyday life and having a young boy who wants to go go-karting I have to find a way to transport the go-kart from A to B. The trunk is obviously too small and the back seats can't be folded so my only alternative is to install roof bars (carrier bars) on the roof. I've been searching all over the internet and can't figure out if this can be done or not. I've asked my my local Jaguar dealer and he hasn't been able to give me a clear answer. He says that in theory it "should be possible" but he's never been asked before and doesn't know.

The forum is therefore my last hope to maybe find a way to travel with a larger load using this car.

Thank you in advance for the time spent reading this threat and the answers I'll hopefully get from the community

Max

Hi Max,
I don't know about the roof bars, never even seen a picture of it, Maybe the problem is that our X300 don't have enough of a ridge on the sides of the roof to mount anything too. I know what does exist is a Boot lid(trunk lid) luggage rack. I never had one on any of mine, but when I lived in a smaller town in the state i live in now, one of the guys had a x300 in black that had the trunk lid luggage rack. It was chrome and really didn't take away from the lines of the car. I never took a picture of it. We kind of just use to give each other a thumbs up when driving around town. But one day when i talked to him, he did say the rack was originally a dealer available option, don't know if it is still available. but it could be worth checking into.

I second the trailer idea.

Unfortunately that might get difficult. I live in a city, where parking is incredibly scarce. I would have to pay for an extra garage space which costs a fortune just to store the trailer... But I've found someone who installer roof bars using a very basic rain gutter mounted rood bar which he found on Ebay.

Any attempt to use traditional rain gutter mountings will soon destroy the trim.

If you are determined to use a roof rack, the best option is something like SeaSucker which several of our XK and F-Type owning members use to transport their surf boards, bikes and skis:

These fit with vacuum mounts.

In Europe there was an accessory-brochure where they were advertised.
The OEM Number for the bars is: JLM11986 or JLM9853 (in other brochure)

Thanks for the additional product idea.

Do you know if these would hold on the highway? Not sure how safe the suction caps are. Nothing mentionning the wind resistance and load on their website.

Cheers,

Max

Reports suggest the suction is very reliable. Excess speed could cause aerodynamic lift of the carried object and distort the roof panel so some discretion is necessary.

However, on many journeys along the A10 in general and into Monaco specifically, I've rarely found the opportunity for serious speed.
