Default Roof material colour

Hi

I removed the inside roof assebly od my X300-94. I have planned to supply a new roof set, but got one problem. There are two original colour options: oatmeal and light grey. I assumed it to be oatmeal, as the colour of the seats is light beige o something like that. Anyhow brownish not grey. Now after removing the roof and looking it in different light conditions, I’m not so sure anymore. Does anyone have any hint how to get certainty before making the supply? Could the information be found via the manufacturing code?

I'm not 100% certain, but thought that all X300s had the same color roof liner fabric (headlliner). I think Oatmeal and Light Grey are basically the same color anyway!

My retired XJ6 Vanden Plas had a black fabric replacement headliner that looked really nice with black floor mats. The headliner also covered the inoperative sunroof.

They are different, oatmeal being more brownish/mushroom colour and light grey being very gray, more like limestone. I believe this was tied to trim colour.
PS
Actually I have two exactly the same x300(paint wise, paint shade being very rare cabernet mica), one has grey headlining(31.12.1996) with grey seats/steering wheel and mink carpets, the other has oatmeal headlining(middle 1997) with cream interior and champagne carpets.

VIN doesn't give this level of detail and only the basic X300 data is available on Jaguar TOPIx. Here's an example for the 1996 XJ I had:

Later models detail everything (including headlining colour) under Minor Features. The older model data is still on the previous system. A Jaguar Dealer could look it up for you on the old Direct Dealer Warranty system.

As @katar83 said the headling colour is tied to the main trim colour (i.e. the seats). The main trim colour code should be on a VIN plate somewhere on the car. Mine was on the front slam panel under the bonnet, but I don't know if that is universal.

The attached PDF document shows a cross reference for each trim code to the colour for the roof lining and other trim colours.

Duly noted! The Nimbus Grey headliner is found only on the Nimbus Grey, Warm Charcoal or Regatta Blue primary interior color. All less commonly seen interiors I think. All the other interiors have Oatmeal headliners.

Again, Nimbus Grey and Oatmeal are also found in seatbelts. I do like the color of the Barley seatbelts found on the Coffee and Cream interiors.

I also think it is important to use the proper descriptive color names for the paint and interior, when presenting your vehicle! Much more charming than just the letters in a code.

Thanks everybody for hints. It seems, that the correct answer is oatmeal. I also discussed with the roof supplier who had the same opinion. They have had many customers during the years, who supplied the grey one and made a mistake.
