Security system blues
Still on a honeymoon with my 1997 XJR, but the security system has me baffled. Here's the gig list:
Central locking not working, either from the key or the switch. Occasionally, pressing central switch will result in a series of rapid flashes of the interior lights, don't know why.
Trunk release switch inoperative.
Fuel filler flap does not lock.
Key fob need to be programmed, but valet switch never chirps.
I read the security book from the owners manuals and read the security section in the workshop manual. I've also checked the security system fuse in the trunk and it looks fine.
Is there a set of trouble shooting procedures that I've missed. Should I replace the security module? Your thoughts?

Replace the battery. Don't care how new it is or how it tests out as you don't know how the previous owner maintained it. Before you spend any money chasing anything with a new to you Jag doing weird stuff do your self a favor and replace the battery. Then buy a battery tender and install it the same day. I have tested many Jag battery's over the years and they test out OK, but when I replace the battery all weird stuff goes away. A new battery in a Jag without a tender installed the same day is a waste of money. If your Jag sits more than a day be sure and plug the tender in.
