Default Service Eng Light 1995 XJR

I have read most of the threads but am not that computer literate. Is there any way of reading Service Eng Light on a 1995 XJR? I have looked at the OBD recommendations but can't see a specific reader for the 95 XJR. I just got the car and it failed the Emission Test in Ontario Canada. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It's an OBDII car so any typical OBDII code reader or scan tool will work....at least for the essentials/basics relating to engine management/fuel injection. I use an Innova 3130 which will also stream live data. It's good enough for a DIY home mechanic.

If you want something that'll read ABS codes and body codes you'll need to get into more expensive equipment.

Others will chime in.

Be aware that the 1995 OBDII wasn't quite 'fully developed'. Depending on the nature of the problem you're having and what the system is or isn't seeing, the OBDII system on these cars can be somewhat less than helpful.

But.... one step at a time.

Cheers

Is the check engine light on? Any OBDII reader will work, but they do vary in their capabilities. Some can just read codes, others can clear them, read the data and more. I got one of the more expensive ones from Princess Auto and it has worked well.

Was there something specific that caused the car to fail? Knowing that, we can then make suggestions about how to proceed. I'm not familiar with Ontario's testing, there is no testing in Alberta where I am.

Which reader did you get at Princess Auto? Nothing was stated what caused to fail, and then the light came on half way home. Ontario is the only Province left with E test I believe, and the Conservatives were going to throw it out, but got beat by Liberals.

Mine is a Autel GS500. I looked at their listings and they don't carry it anymore, I did buy it a number of years ago. I'd get one that can read the data stream, rather than just clear codes.
