Default Starter Issues

P.O. Installed a push button switch "as an anti-theft" device.

Current issue. Battery drains after a few days of non-use of the vehicle.

When the battery gets low and I go to start it the (I believe) starter malfunctions and the gear doesn't move away from the flywheel.

When this happens, it seems as if the Fuel Pump also malfunctions as the Fuel Rail seems to pulse for several minutes while the car doesn't start.

This condition seems to improve after the battery is re-charged.

Yes, I likely have a drain somewhere.

My plan currently is to replace the Starter Motor and the Ignition Starter Switch (taking the Push BUtton out of the picture, as this could be part of the drain...)

How difficult is the switch to replace? Getting to it inside the column?

Hot summer temps here, so waiting for the sun to go down before I go look around.

Any tips /advice /thoughts, as always, are appreciated.

Thank you.

Refer to JTIS or the Workshop Manual for details on how to access and replace the switch.

Prior to removing the starter motor, it may be best to remove the push-button from the circuit and repair the wiring loom as needed. This may effectively cure the condition without the need to remove the starter or the switch.

Currently working on getting the old starter out. I've searched the net/forum and have found references to a.) Dropping the transmission a few inches and coming in over the top with a really long extension b.) Taking the wiper motor out c.) removing the intake.

I've opted for choice a.)

I have lowered the trans a few inches and I am going at it blind.

Anyone have pics or links to a visual step by step?

The motor side bolt is out already.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
