Default Stuck in Park

Hey, My 1995 Jaguar XJ6 is stuck in park. Replaced starter and runs now but wont shift. I have red up some on it. Did take star out and did engage to drive, but still not shifting. No brake lights, no click noise of brake being depressed. Have not checked fuses. Not sure which to check and where. Any info or remedies. Thanks much

If you're not hearing a click noise, that's the solenoid that locks the shifter in place till you press the brake pedal. You'll need to take the shifter trim ( wooden ski slope ) out of the way and the center console as well. It should a 2 way white connector. Would help to check fuses as well.

The click come from the shift lock solenoid. The shift lock solenoid is operated by the brake light switch.

'Sometimes' jabbing the brake pedal very hard gives temporary relief.

Cheers

Thanks much. The parts house suggested it might b the neutral switch. Now if the solenoid is bad would that stop the brake light from coming on also? by the way all the J lights are working when key is on, if that makes a difference. Thanks again

Check this thread out......because jamming the brake pedal hard is temporary and its really not hard to fix except for having to be upside down for awhile ;-)

If the brake lights aren't working, most likely its the brake switch.

Thanks all for the tips. Going to look into the brake light switch.
