Sunroof trouble
I just took my car in to have the sunroof looked at and they told me the track is bent and that the whole sunroof needs to be replaced. It was only working on one side and would get Jammed kind of sideways. I figured tilt and slide mechanism but no. They said they don't make the part anymore and if they got there hands on one it would cost 1000 bucks. Are they just trying to make money off me or is there some other thing that could be causing the sunroof to do that. Other than replacing the whole thing.
Sounds like the track may have been lacking grease. It also sounds like nothing is broke. Do you see the bent track? you might try straightening it out in place and greasing it with white lithium grease bought at most hardware stores. I'd try doing this before replacing components.
The alloy the track is mad of won't do much "straightening" if it is bent. Thetracks go for a few hundred from junkyards, and the last new one I bought a few years ago was $250. for one side.
The x-308 track is exactly the same, so you have a wider hunting ground.
Oh, yeah. If you are not pretty good with tools and mechanisms, you should not try this one yourself.

The motor works fine but one side doesn't drag back but the other side does so it gets twisted and stops. They said it wasn't the tilt and slide mech. But a piece did break off it kinda looks like a figure 8 with a little prong at the end. It's metal. How do I install the new tracks if I find them?
I saw the entire assembly on ebay awhile back for $300 I believe. It is a simple matter to change out once you have the headliner down. the "bend over and smile"
price of $1000 must include all the labor involved

As other have already said, the Sunroof is not the easiest assembly to work on. However, the '.....whole sunroof needs to be replaced' is an extreme and very expensive solution.
If the track is bent then the Sunroof is presumably jammed partially closed? If it will actually close (even with some manual assistance), this suggests the track is straight and the fault is elsewhere.
There's a lot of parts packed into a small space. The Parts Catalogue drawing makes the layout clearer:

Only working on one side could be caused by a broken / detached Drive Cable (item 7 in the drawing).
Before considering buying individual parts or an entire Sunroof, it needs to be dismantled to see exactly what is broken. Until then, it's still all guesswork.

This is the part that broke off. And the sunroof initially broke when I tried to use the tilt feature. And a piece of metal snapped. I tried to attach a picture so maybe someone can identify it.
Yep, it is broke. You need to decide which path you follow. You have received good suggestions with the basis for each one. If it were me, I would get the thing closed and remove the wire from the motor.
That looks like the end of the tilt/slide lever. It started out about 4 inches long with a pin in the middle having a spring wrapped around it.
They are cast pot metal .. not repairable. That's why they break in the first place.

Plums said that was the tilt and slide lever. Is that's the same as the mech?Because if so I wouldn't have to spend 900 bucks for a whole new assembly. And how would u replace it
Not to be insulting, for me as well, but the point you seem to be missing is that the parts are not repairable, are not available and are difficult to make yourself. So the part names, numbers and descriptions really do not matter. You must buy the side rails as assemblies, or the entire unit from a scrap yard as an assembly.
