Default Is this taboo??

Ok well as some of you know I have some 18" chrome wheels on my 96 x300. Not a big deal to most but for me I like original gear on my car. So I put an ad on CL to trade for some 95-97 wheels, not really expecting any hits but hey what the heck.
So I got a lady that has a 95 VPD that wants to trade. Now my question is, even though mine is not a VPD, how stupid will it look having VPD wheels on my car?

It wouldn't look too silly, but IMHO the wheels put on the 1995 VDP's were a bit too ugly for me. I have some Xj8 wheels I don't need, but I don't think you'd want to come down to Florida to pick them up.

I agree that they aren't as flash as the regular XJ6 wheels but to me they are better than what I have on there right now. Worst case scenario is I can always trade them up too

How about posting a couple of side by side pics into your thread?

Default Not side-by-side, but baseline?

Got 5 of these on my '95 VDP, stock offering as far as I know.
Guess we all like different things and I'm also biased, but I prefer them to anything else I've seen on X300's and also over the wife's S-type 18's and either set of daughter's S-type 16's.

Well I made the trade today and I can honestly say that I am 100% happy. As a bonus I asked if she had a spare (she has a huge sub box in the back, tacky but to each their own) and she said she wasn't sure. Low and behold there sat a full size spare with the original Pirelli tire on it, brand new. It's nice having 5 matching tires

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the Aero wheels, but they're better than a lot of the aftermarket junk available...

I'm chuffed that I managed to get an XJ Sport with a complete set of Dimple mags though:

That's a really nice wheel. The Kiwi mags are all right too - they're not so photogenic, but they look much better in real life when they're sparkling in the sun.

The Dimple Mags are my ultimate goal (I just love those for some reason) but I will settle with the 'upgraded' VDP rims for now. I am just happy because NOW my car looks like a Jaguar!

The spokes look like two different things, neither of which are remotely appropriate on a Jaguar. I'll give you a hint, one of the things is a bone, the other could be considered similar.

They're such a nice design for teh X300. The only wheel I would possibly prefer for my X300 is this later XKR design:

'Modernises' the look of the car.

The xj8 starburst ones are pretty nice too. I had them on my Xj40.

oubadah.. the ones posted on the car look great, they really suit the car, look very Jaguarish and modern.

The ones you posted earlier....the chrome affairs ( They look like 9 knobs all pointing towards the centre ) NOT really nice or Jaguarish IMO

I think I've changed my mind. I reckon this is THE wheel to end all wheels when it comes to X300.

It's a refinement of the wheel I posted above, and I think it came standard with some X308s. Comparison:

And more example:

Dimple still looks great though...

Wish I had the full VDP/DD6/Sov trims on my car Full bright trims came standard issue with every S3 and I miss them.

The wheels above are the X308 Xjr wheels. They do look really nice.

A point to bear in mind when choosing wheels is how different the same wheels can look, when on different coloured cars. Some colours could be regarded as macho and bold and so wheels that compliment that fact are called for, as opposed to a colour which might be regarded as more classy or sophisticated. A little bit of photo shop is useful before making that final commitment. I seem to remember a site that specialised in wheels, where you could display your car model and colour and then "fit" a variety of wheels to see how they'd look. Must do a google........
