Telescope motor drive
Some time ago, maybe 12 months back, I replaced the little shaft in the motor that provides the telescope action to the steering wheel. I used the shaft from my donor car, so maybe it wasn't the best to start with. Also, I didn't change/adjust anything else in the process, but maybe the telescope action had to be set or reset, as I remember reading something to this effect, after I had done my repair.
Now the replacement has gone awol also, with the steering wheel set back very close to the dashboard, along with the wiper and indicator switch! It won't pull forward manually, so I was wondering, is the specific "wire bound" shaft really needed, or would a similar sized square shaft do the same job, provided the set up was positioned properly during assembly/replacement.
Thanks in advance.

Coventry West now makes a replacement cable so it can be repaired without a reach motor.
Good luck!
I have written about this before (as have others and I think the horse is dead and does not care if is beaten).
If you simply replace the cable and DO NOT reset the position sensor 'end-points' then it will stall the motor and FAIL AGAIN if AUTO is used!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE............... If you replace the drive cable and have NO IDEA how to reset the stopping points, then SWITCH THE COLUMN SWITCH TO OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Using the MANUAL column function gives the motor/cable half-a-chance of survival as YOU can stop the motor when it reaches an END. The AUTO function will drive the motor until it reaches the position sensor limit. If the 'electrical' limit is not reached, the motor continues to drive until the cable fails, the motor burns out OR the plastic column drive BREAKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think about it. If you want to stop at an intersection, but there is a car in front of you, your car needs to stop 20 or 30 feet BEFORE the intersection or you will try to occupy the same space as the other car. You can try the excuse "Well I stopped at the intersection but some idiot was in my way!!"
The motor/sensor wants to travel until it is told to stop.
I usually set the limit with the motor/sensor plugged in but NOT installed. You can run the motor all the way IN and move the column ALMOST all the way in so the motor STOPS before the column STOPS!!!!!!!!!! THEN install the motor.
You need to read through the vast amount of info posted on this forum over the years. Do a search of 'column reach fault' or something like that.
The X300, X308 and X100 all use the same type of column and drive assy.

Hi, I am looking for a headlight powerwash jet left side for my Jaguar XJ6 1997. Could someone tell me where I can get one. So far in Canada they are back order and, if ordered, out of price. New, used or from a scrap.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
Hi Bob and thanks a load for that detailed and possibly somewhat exasperated explanation. It's as much as I expected and I promise, when I replace the drive, to set it all up properly. And if I have any doubts, I will certainly leave the "Auto" setting switched off.
It's just convenient to have the wheel retract as I'm a bit long legged and I appreciate the extra room when getting out of the car.
Thanks again.
