Timing chain job???
I was wondering if anyone had or could point me in the correct direction for the procedure to change the timing chain and tensioner and chain guides for the AJ16 engine not supercharged. Im not sure if it needs done but car has over 100k miles on it and i know no repair history.
I have already searched the forums and have not returned a complete procedure.
Thanks in advance

The manual is available for download in the sticky note section if im not mistaken and does not need to be purchased.
Do you know what section it is in? As i have looked before and did not find it, its possible i overlooked it, at any rate I was hoping for a little more hand holding if possible.

From what I remember the earliest someone replaced the chain and tensioner was around 170k miles... So I wouldn't worry too much about it. Give it a good service all around (engine, transmission, differential, etc) and you should be good to go! Only start worrying if you can hear/feel some problems

I've done it before on a car I owned, not for a problem but for my own peace of mind. I talked with another well seasoned Jag tech i worked with and he looked at me funny for even doing them. Point is, don't do them unless they are causing a problem. The upper chain tensioner does rattle on startup, even with the last design, but aside from that, the system is trouble free.
If you do think you want to do them, the cylinder head must be removed, then the timing cover can be removed. The timing cover is sandwiched between the oil pan and the head, so one has to be removed. The later V8 cars are a totally different story in which failure is almost certain with the first couple designs.
If you do attempt, look over the repair manual many times before doing it to get a visual of the steps, and plan on the car being down for a while.
As well, if the head comes off, may as well have it checked and decked by a machine shop. Sometimes, coolant eats at the aluminum.
