Default Transmission Grind/timing chain grind

Fellas,

When my motor is cold or cool, the transmission will grind in gear until it warm up to temperature or if i give it a little gas. Drives fine once it is up to temp, it will bang into gear every now and again.

Please don't tell me I've answered my own question, and that it needs a tranny.

Few quick details, 97 XJ6, with about 180k, did a tranny filter and flush at about 90k with syn fluid.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Reg

Edit: Same grind this morning, but was also doing it in park, leading me to believe it could be the timing chain?

I would recommend another filter and flush. Could solve a lot of issues.

My XJ6 had transmission issues where it would slip coming off of a dead stop until it hit about 1500rpm and everything would be fine. Shifted into all gears just fine. I figured worst case was a transmission rebuild so I decided to try some Lucas Transmission Fix Stop Slip. I used about one whole bottle and it seemed to work right away but after a few days it came back occasionally so I added some more Lucas and now about a year and a half later, the issue has never come back.

I would recommend the new filter and flush and then maybe replace some transmission fluid with the lucas additive
