Two little questions.
Not a major issue but perhaps someone can shed some light. Firstly, while poking around under the ski slope, I came across a telephone connection type thing. It's a black wire, running into a little black box, with an input on it, like a standard landline telephone socket. The wire disappears into the bowels of the car, so I don't know where it goes. This is presumably part of a car phone set up? Is it complete or do I need more bits? if so, what's involved in getting it up and running?
Secondly, I noticed yesterday morning when it was quite frosty, that my rear view mirrors were fogged up. The mirrors didn't appear to heat up and they seemed to clear just by driving. (I purposely didn't clear them, as I wanted to see how, or if, they would perform) So, how do I check if they're working as they should, given that they won't heat up unless the temp is below a certain degree? I can check for continuity ok, but not for power at the mirrors.
Thanks in advance.

Seems that all the X300s had the car phone wiring. I dunno about if it requires more parts to operate but, even if it didn't, you'd probably need to find an archaic car phone to be compatible, wouldn't you? I'm wayyy out of my depth so let's wait for others to chime in.
The mirror heaters are switched on whenever the rear defogger button is pressed. I've never heard of a temperature requirement and the owners manual makes no mention of one. You should be able to check for voltage to the mirror heater at any time.

Yes, the rear demister makes sense, but maybe it was on a different car that I read something about the fact that the mirrors wouldn't heat up at temps above 4 degrees. I shall investigate it tomorrow morning when we may have another frost. Regarding the phone, I imagine you would be right about needing an ancient house brick of a phone for it to work, but just and idle curiosity on my part.
Thanks for the input.
