I have a 1997 XJ6-L. Replaced front brake pads & rotors a year ago. Started hearing noise from right front brake, so I inspected pads and found they were completely worn down. Left side however, showed a normal amount of wear with about 75% of pad still left. What could cause such uneven wear? Thanks,

Hearing a noise - as in down to the metal backplate of the pad?

Check for sticking caliper pistons and/or warped brake disc.

^^ ditto on the hanging caliper. Could also be a spent flex line to the caliper. I just went though this on my wife's SUV - terrible noise, but no excessive wear - replaced pads, calipers, and rotors, still has had the noise - replaced the lines, all resolved - and all new brakes at 117k miles.
