Default Video of X300 on the production line

Just seen a FB post linking to this video, and although slow it’s fascinating to watch!

I can never resist watching this!

I am amazed that they install the engine and transmission from above with the hood attached to the body! Why wouldn't they install it from below when they are installing the subframes and driveline?

You have to raise the production line ruining a limited production floor space or dig a hole in the floor and it's disruption in terms of safety and ramping down to get the drivetrain there to start the installation

Just guessing

You may be right. But the jig for installing the subframes and driveline seems nearly as tall as the engine. And this was well into Ford's ownership, so you would assume there were discussions about optimal assembly methods, and this was either the best possible method or the best compromise due to other factors such as the ones you mention.

I had the same thought and commented on the video to that effect. A reply claims that the V12s only were fitted from the top because they would not go through the frame rails from underneath.
