Default Warning chime

These forums are a life saver and a bounty of knowledge. I've fixed my driver's door handle, windshield fluid reservoir and aerial mast. But here's one I haven't been able to find in past threads.

Starting today, when a door is open, I get a warning chime sounding for no apparent reason. It is the same chime that sounds when the car is off and the lights are left on. Except in this case, the lights are definitely off. What else would cause the chime? The interior and exterior lights are all off. Also the car gives a warning sound when trying to arm it with the key fob like a window or door is still open. What am I missing? I'd prefer not to wake up one morning to a dead battery.

Sounds like maybe the little door on the ignition key barrel is not closing when the key is pulled out. If not, it thinks there is a key left in the ignition and trips the chime.

Cheers,

Thanks, I think you are right. The problem spontaneously resolved itself before I tell for sure, but leaving the key partially in the ignition reproduces all of the same symptoms.

I'm sure a little WD40 or similar will loosen that right up
