Default water injection kit and other performance ideas

Hello all

I have a manual XJR converted by previous owner (forum name 'On Edge')

the car is going well, but I'm always a tinkerer. I like Q-ships. I had an Austin 1100 26 yrs ago which could do 90 mph. next car was a 2 litre Ford Escort with 1.3 GL badges, which was fantastic

Anyway, my car has been 100% reliable and enjoyable for the past year after some major work to intake side of the engine. For good measure, at that time I sourced a new-old-stock Eaton SC from USA for it, as an insurance policy, given that side of the engine was in bits and it was an easy job.
My car has Andy's reprogrammed ECU.

I have just ordered a new Bosch intercooler water pump from the States - waiting for the postman's knock.
I want a 10% bigger SC drive pulley but the UK suppliers are out of stock - a 2 month wait.
I have had a hot summer here and there has been a lot of heat soak in the intake - the new water pump may cure that, and winter is coming.
I have been corresponding with Andy, and I'm contemplating an extractor build (exhaust manifold)- I have bought Andy's manifold pipe dimension plans. My trouble is, I haven't yet found a local fabricator who can do me a stainless steel exhaust - one guy can do it in mild steel, but it may not have longevity.
I am also starting to hunt for a 3.54 diff. My car definitely has the correct 3.27 - I have done the rpm calculations for 4th and 5th gear. A 3.54 would rise revs about 10% , but given the legal speed in NZ is 100km/h and one loses the licence over 140, a top speed of 260 km/h is not much use, and I'd prefer better pick-up in the gears.

So my list of planned mods is:-

new IC water pump
lower diff ratio
higher SC drive pulley ratio
+/- tuned exhaust manifold
+/- bigger (custom) intercooler radiator (it gets hot here in summer)

would two intercooler pumps in series be a silly idea? I suspect the narrow-bore hoses would minimise any benefit.

Has anyone had any experience with water injection to the manifold? It sounds like a good idea, I just can't find a good kit on the net

The normally aspirated X300 here in the U.S. is 3.58 and it can be either limited slip or not. The color code for limited slip 3.58 is a red/yellow striped decal with a black X through it.

Don't know if there is going to be much feedback in the X300 forum on water injection, but check the X308 forum and posts by Vector and Waterdragon? the later which wrote a lot about the subject.

I'm hoping to afford one of the 10% SC pulleys at some point, but will then also have to look at increased intercooling capacity somehow. I too would look at the uprated Bosch pump, a pusher fan for the intercooler radiator, and if possible a larger intercooler radiator such as perhaps an X308 unit if it is larger and can be made to fit.

On the other hand, I'd like to also look at a Killer Chiller and eliminate the radiator altogether

BTW, good to know there is only a 2 month back order on the pulleys versus their not being available at all anymore. I saw they had pulled their eBay ads and hoped they hadn't been discontinued.

Were there any limited slip XJ6/VDP cars sold in the USA or Canada with limited slip? I have the Full Line Product Guide for 1996, intended for salespeople and it shows limited slip standard on the XJR and not available on the other sedans.

The XJ40 (with the JURID flange) and the X300 all use the same diffs and most were 3.58:1 here in the U.S.

I have 2 limited slip and 3 regular diffs from when I worked at the dealer. When I replaced a diff, I simply ordered and installed whatever came out of the car. If the label was red/yellow with the black X then that is what was installed. I really never paid attention to what options the car had.
Early 1988 XJ6 used a diff with a U Joint input and a different ratio.
1989 to 1997 gives you a range of options.
