What could cause this alarm fob issue?
Hi guys,
This problem occurs with a standard 1995 XJ6 3.2 auto.
The fob has 2 brand new batteries in it and it has been set to work with this particular car by use of the valet switch. once the fob has been sorted out (I can't remember the correct word but you know what I mean) it is checked to make sure that it both locks and unlocks all the doors. It works perfectly.
Go out to the car the next day and ....... nothing. The green light on the fob flashes at 100 mph if you know what I mean, but nothing happens to the locks.
Any ideas what can cause this?
Cheers,
Steve.

My first thought is:
ITS RAINING AND THE CAR DONT WONT TO GET WET.
SERIOUSLY now.
The antenna is in the back glass on the LH side, from memory. That leads to the alarm/locking module thingy tucked up near the fuel filler pipe, you have to be flexible here, and I am thinking cruddy terminals of that module. Since you are in the UK, growing white/green stuff on module plugs is somewhat common that I read/hear all over the place.
I am, of course, assuming you can actually get into the car manually????. Otherwise the car battery being "off the boil" comes creeping in.
Sometimes a frequency creep will cause the same issues, but unless you have a frequency reader you will never know. Down here most "good" locksmiths have such a reader.

Thank you, Grant. I'll take a look at that when the weather clears up a bit. I can get into the car using the key and I can lock it again using the key which also sets the alarm. So it's no big deal not being able to use the fob buttons to activate / de-activate the alarm. It's just a pain in the gluteus maximus.
