Default what to fix first ?

So I have an important decision to take to fix 2 bad things:
  1. rear differential leaking heavily from right rod joint, probably a seal to be replaced. My "normal" mechanic told me it's a lot of labor he never did it on Jag and he feels liek not comfortable to do it. The Jguar mechanic told me $508 + taxes to fix it.
  2. engine leaks from valve gasket cover and oil pan gasket. Vale gasket cover was quoted $90 from my normal mechanic and $350 from the thief Jag mechanic. I will address this problem with my "normal" mechanic he is very honest. The oil pan gasket is something more serious. It is estimated 7 hours of labor so I would spent at least $560 plus taxes to my "normal" mechanic, probably $1000 from the Jag mechanic.
I decided I will go for #1 and I will avoid addressing the oil pan gasket for now. Too much money to spend. I am concerned about the rear differential because if it gets wrecked because of too much oil is leaking out, then it will really be a PITA.

Another mechanic suggested me to use LIQUI MOLY Engine Flush and then replace the engine oil and this will help to stop engine oil leaking. I may try this as well.

Any hints are well accepted.

There are some tips on servicing the diff as that would be your first priority before it gets ruined by lack of oil . The leak is sometimes caused by it not venting as the cavity pressurizes as it heats up pushing oil out the seals . Others would have more tips on this .

When I first bought my 96 vdp. it had a rear end leak that I could smell every time I got out of the car. That oil is really stinky! When I had the initial service done I also had the oil changed in the rear end, since then there has been no leaks. Someone else on the forum mentioned that fresh oil in some cases can rejuvenate the seals somewhat. It may be worth a shot unless the seals are worn out. Maybe check the breather on the diff. cover also.
