Question what part is this?

Hello, I'm new to the community just buying a 1995 Xj6. I was just wondering if you could identify this part for me while I track down some manuals from eBay, as the ones I got with the car are clearly for a different year/model.

It's the black unit in the center. I was just wondering why previous owner(s) left the plug for the sensor (I'm assuming) off. I see it hanging under the unit.

Thanks in advance.
Shaune.

Looks like the electric Air Injection Pump.

When the engine is started from cold (and perahps under limited other conditions...I'm not sure) it injects fresh air into the exhaust manifold.

Not sure why it is disconnected. My guess is that is seized up or making too much noise

Plug it back in and see aht happens

You should have a CEL if it is unplugged. Is that the case?

Hi, sparkenzap, I have 1 amber light on the far left of the dash that I think is for the side marker light being out. Other than that there are no other warning lights present while engine is running.
