hello all i finally purchased an x300, its a mint 1 owner 1997 4.0 litre. the question i have is which model is it? it says sovereign on the boot/ trunk lid, but 4.0 sport is on the chrome trim on both "b" pillars.all the exterior chrome trim is indeed chrome and not body coloured or black like other sports i have seen, the interior has cream leather with burl walnut trim. it seems to be a sovereign spec but the b pillar badges are confusing the issue. the panels are definitely all original and it has never been crash damaged or repainted. ay ideas?

 

I'm not an authority on the multitude of trim/spec configurations offered by Jaguar but, IMHO, you have a Sovereign with "Sport" badges added by a previous owner.

A picture of the seats might provide an additional clue.

yeah i have a feeling its a sovereign too but seeing as i bought it from the original owner, an elderly gent with little interest in cars, i cant see him being bothered to rebadge it. i will however forward the vin no. to you so i can get to the bottom of this. thanks.

 

Over the years I've seen some assembly line mistakes so it isn't implausible that it was an "authentic factory goof up" :-).

For example, a new Oldsmobile station wagon with all "Oldsmobile" badging on one side and all "Chevrolet" badging on the other.

If it is a sport, it should have a rear anti roll bar. It is an expensive part to attach, so few owner will do such a modification.

 

I have not heard of a Sovereign with sport badges . I will digg up www.ebay.co.uk may be country specs can vary


OK, just a quick browse and seen a bunch of Sovereing X300s , none of them have badges as I stated
