Default Where to fill/add transmission Fluid? Duh!

I know, feel free to call me an idiot and tell me to never drive a car again but... I will never learn if I don't ask.

I always have my fluids checked and topped off at a Lube center on all my non Jaguar cars.

Since buying my second Jaguar, I am trying to learn more about the basics so I don't have to trust others to mess with my car or mess it up :-)

I have checked the transmission fluid and although it's pretty clear in color rather than the red color I have seen in the past, it seems like it's low.

I did some research and posted on this board to figure out the correct ATF to put in it, someone replied and said Dextron III which I purchased.

Now I want to add some fluid but I don't want to put it in the wrong place :-(

The manual I downloaded doesn't say, just says how to check it.

As I remember in my early days, you filled the ATF in the same place you checked it which was the purpose of the wider tube where the dip stick goes.

Is that the correct place to fill the fluid, where the dipstick goes? Or am I in fact the Dipstick :-(

I can fix computers and just about anything without grease attached but when it comes to cars, I have always "Steered Clear" :-) Trying to learn more now so I can baby my X300.

Thanks..

Yep, pour it right into the dipstick tube !

Did you check the level with the engine running and after driving the car until it was thoroughly warmed up? Gotta check the level when the trans fluid is hot.

Cheers

That's a pretty funny post. You will need a skinny funnel sold just for the purpose. And, yes, most trannies don't need much added unless they leak. So do check it hot and after putting the car in gear and back in neutral.
