Default Wobbly door mirror glass!

The glass in my drivers-side door mirror isn't attached to whatever it should attach to, as well as it should be! There's a little bit of play, which means it vibrates (presumably just due to air flow) when I'm travelling at speed, and generally annoys me. It's done this since as long as I've had the car, but I've never got round to investigating! How are the mirror glasses held in? Any ideas on what may be in need of tightening/replacing?

Ta!

I did a post some time back, with pics, explaining the procedure for removing the mirror backs/covers. First you have to remove the mirror glass, which is held in place by "snapping" onto a receiver inside the mirror housing, with the corresponding mating clip mounted to the inside rear of the glass itself.

To remove the glass, tilt the mirror inwards as much as it will go, so that the outer edge is standing very clear of the housing and you can almost see yourself in it. Then you can grip the mirror with finger and thumb and pull outwards and towards you at the same time. Trust me, it's fine! The mirror will disengage from the clip and comes free. Remember the wires attached for heated mirrors!

Anyway, when the mirror is free you can see and understand the set up and see if any part of the clip arrangement is broken. Refitting is a reversal, but search my posts under "mirror" and you will find more details and pics.

Hope this helps.

Coincidentally I noticed the same thing today while driving to work.

The mirror seems tight and it adjusts normally, but at speed the glass "twitches" a bit, and it seems to be tied to turbulance versus bumps in the road.

Curious too what others have noted about this.

My drivers side mirror used to do the same thing.
I removed the whole mirror from the door and there are 3 phillips screws that seem to hold the mirror bracket in place inside the main housing. Mine seemed to be on tight but I tighted less than a quarter turn anyways and it fixed the shaking mirror issue

Thanks for the tips guys! Pulled it apart for a look, but the play seems to be in the cogs used to move the mirror so no easy way to fix it... There seems to be a similar amount of play in my other cars' mirrors, but with more resistance so airflow isn't enough to wobble them.

So I guess I can either replace the mechanism, live with the problem, or stick a piece of foam tape in one of the corners to provide some resistance...

What a timely thread. I just noticed my mirror shaking on Saturday. So I'll add that to the repair list. Fix mirror, stop ski slope vibrating and some how fix a rattle in the sunroof which is inoperative. Since it doesn't open I don't know what to do.

Can you crank it open manually (owners manual has instructions how), or is it so broken it won't even open at all?

Are you able to vent it up at least?
