Default x300 Exhaust repair

I got called out for a hole in my exhaust on my annual state inspection.

It seems the pipe between the two banks of catalytic converters is shot. The converters are fine, since it passed the state sniff test.

Has anyone had luck with having that long piece replaced, versus buying a whole new rear catalytic assembly?

If the converters are still doing their jobs, I hate to spend $400 on parts I don't need, when a 2' piece of exhaust pipe will suffice.

Taken it to an exhaust shop let them see if they can remove the bad piece and weld in a new length. I had some of that sort of work done on mine a while back. Guy did it for $20.00 cash.

well, it was cracked just BEFORE the y-pipe after the front cats. Long story short, cut behind the front cats, and a few inches behind the olive, weld up a new section and weld it in place. I'll post pics later. $250

I'm just back from the shop on my re-inspect, and she's all legal now. I'm allowed to drive her wherever the road takes me.

I have the front bottom shock bushing coming in the mail to take care of that nasty cluck, and I think the exhaust guy welded a little too close to the oxygen sensor and cooked it. The CEL was on after his work, so I'll pull the codes to check that.

The traction control is acting funny, but remedied when it's turned off, but that will all get sorted out in the near future.

I think after about 4-6 weeks of ownership, I'll finally wash it and clean the windows. Three years of sitting in a garage collects a lot of dust.

Yes.

No.

:-)

Jaguar catalog how 2 parts numbers but the *only* difference is the length of the wiring. The sensors themselves are the same. All the aftermarket listings I've seen use a single part number with wiring long enough to accomodate all locations.

Cheers
