X300 headlight alignment screws
I've just been trying the align the righthand outer (dip) headlight on my '95 X300 Sport, and although I can easily adjust up/down on the back of the assembly, I'm embarrassed to say I can't see at all how to adjust the beam left/right. I can just about see a nylon screw which could be it but how do you get at the head ? Surely you don't have to remove the whole assembly, or I am missing something ? Help !
There is no left/right adjustment control built in. You might be able to adjust it by moving one of the two upper mounting pegs in or out. I think at least one peg is threaded in with a locknut. That would probably require taking off the headlight at a minimum, possibly the plastic outer surround too. I think the factory decided that the left/right adjustment was not so important compared to the up/down adjustment.
The headlights come off by pulling them straight forward. They pop off suddenly but usually with no damage. There are 3 ball and socket connections on the back of each. Lube them first for easy removal and replacement.

I just now thought that if one of the upper ball and socket connections was already popped off, the headlight would definitely be out of alignment. But, I think that would make the headlight loose and it would move around. Could that be what's happened?
Well, it's sorted. So just in case anyone else has a problem of a headlight pointing off the left or right, CHECK THAT THE BULB HOLDER IS CORRECTLY FITTED ! - Mine looked fine at fist glance but it turned out that one of the three locating lugs on the holder wasn't correctly seated, which angled the bulb over to one side. An easy fix !

I just had the same problem, kind of.
I have been chasing down a rattle coming from the front of the car, which usually happened when driving over seemingly minor bumps. After changing the shocks and a whole bunch of bushings (all of which were due), tying down a whole bunch of pipes and cables, the rattle persisted.
Today I noticed that the right front headlight was tilting out at the bottom and was showing way more metal than the other side. After trying to adjust it, I found that the white plastic light housing was not clipped on to the adjustment post. This was causing the light assembly to rattle over small bumps and drive me to OCD levels with rattles and noises.
I could see that the ball end was still attached to the adjuster so, so I was able to pop it back in and adjust the light back to normal.
It was a nice and simple fix to a problem I had been chasing down for months, so all in all a good day.
Thanks to the above post for the final 'push'.
