Default X300 Rear brakes

Been researching replacement parts for rear brakes. Expected just to see just disc pad options, but also see parking drum brakes referred to. Does this mean there are in fact two sets of brakes for each rear wheel. If so, a more complicated setup than I thought!
Thanks.

I just took the rear brakes apart - not really complicated at all!

The caliper is typical and fastened with two bolts while the disc is a "combination" rotor/drum affair with a small set of shoes inside for the parking brake. A large phillips head screw secures the disc to the hub. After removing it, the drum can be eased off the and the shoes inspected or replaced, if necessary.

Although it had been some time since I had to deal with ANY brake shoes, I remembered the arrangement and was able to disassemble and reassemble them from memory.

Main point to remember - don't forget to release the parking brake if you're gonna try and remove the drum!

Thanks for that, so I guess there are two systems, disk brake pads AND parking brake shoes for the drums! Sounds simple..........
Thanks again.

The parking brake (shoe system) is "old-school" - cable operated and totally independent from the hydraulic brakes. One system can be serviced without affecting the other.

BTW, those rear shoes last a really long time unless you forget to release the parking brake and drive around with it still on!

cheers
