Default x300 sport rear shock absorbers???????

Hi all

i have a 97 x300 xj6 3.2 sport and the rear shocks are knocking.

i have looked for replacements and wondered whats the difference between the normal shocks and the sports shocks, as it says on various sites that the standard/comfort shocks wont fit???

also the price of the sports shocks is 50% higher than the standard.

i have heard a rumor that the xjr rear shocks are just as stiff and that they might be a good replacement, if they fit that is....

Any of the shocks listed for the X300s will physically fit onto the car.

Any of the sportspack or XJR shocks should be stiffer than the "comfort" shocks. My understanding, never confirmed with certainty, is the the XJR Euro-UK-ROW shocks are the stiffest with the SportsPack and USA-XJR a bit less so. Frankly I can't imagine there being that much diffeence between the three....but who knows?

Last time I looked Jaguar used about a half dozen differently calibrated Bilstein shocks on the assembly line but the Bilstein "replacement shock" listings show only "comfort" and "XJR/Sport". <shrug>

Cheers
DD

Knocking is common from the rear of the X300, but I have reason to believe that it's more likely the A-Frame Bushes that are causing it.

I've seen reports from people who have replaced the shocks to no avail. If I was you, I'd do the A-Frame Bushes at the same time.

cheers guys, ive had a look with it on a ramp and the shock bushes are knackered and also are the subframe bushes.

i have reason to believe the shocks are gone as the rear is extremely bouncy. i cant see any leaks but they look original and the vehicle has clocked 130000, i might also change the rear springs and make sure everything is new seeing as everything comes out in one piece

Just out of interest, how long does it take to change an A frame bush :?:

Or rather a garage

ive had a quick look at the kyb shocks as ive used them before on other vehicles and liked there build quality and there gas-a-just seem good value however yet again they do all models xjr, v6, v12 etc but only tech docs says excluding sport.

if this is the case can you get those spring stiffners
