The wipers on my 1996 Jaguar XJ (X300) failed and only work in the fast setting. Also, the park mode has no more function.
The fuse is healty and the relays are replaced.
With the help of this forum, I was able to remove the wiper motor to check it. Although I suspect something wrong at the steering column or control unit (location?).
When benchtesting the motor, it doesn't rotate when I connect either the red or blue cable. Only when getting juice on both of them at the same time, the motor starts turning.
Is this normal, or do I have to replace the brushes?
When testing the park switch, I didn't get any results on my multimeter. I found replacement on the net, so I guess I will replace it before digging too deep into the switch funcionality.
I appreciate your help because atm we got rainy weather over here in Switzerland
The park switch is okey. The problem was on the cable connecting to the multimeter which was faulty
The motor is okey aswell. The problem was the bench top power supply which didn't supply enough power for the motor Testing the motor with the battery of the car worked fine.
I then connected the motor to the plug at the engine compartement:
The park mode still doesn't work, although I can hear the click from the park switch. Either the harness is faulty or the control unit.
While fiddling with the column switchgear, the slow mode was working just once...
My next move will be to check the control unit and column switchgear.
There have been cases where the column switch wires have come loose on the soldier and just rejoin them , and then there is worn insulation / pinched wires in the column

The problem has been solved! The workshop has taken care of the problem and found a faulty cable below the relay. The cable was corroded.
I am glad I did not have to replace the control unit or disassemble the column switchgear.
